Sami Atiya to Depart ABB Amid Robotics Division Divestment
Zurich, Switzerland-based ABB Ltd has announced that Sami Atiya, the President of its Robotics & Discrete Automation division, will leave the company by the end of 2026. This decision coincides with ABB's plans to divest its Robotics division to SoftBank Group. ABB will disband its Robotics & Discrete Automation business area by the fourth quarter of 2025 and reorganize into three business areas.
Sami Atiya will step down from ABB’s Executive Committee at the end of 2025. He will continue to assist the Robotics business and the carve-out process in 2026 as a strategic advisor. ABB CEO Morten Wierod praised Atiya's contributions, highlighting his role in establishing AI as a pivotal factor in the company's value creation.
Atiya expressed gratitude for his time at ABB and showed optimism about the Robotics division's future under SoftBank's ownership, particularly in leveraging automation and AI opportunities across industries.
