Africa-Paris Declaration on Energy Transition, Climate Justice and Energy Poverty

The Africa-Paris Declaration aligns Africa’s stance on the global energy transition and climate justice. Following the Invest in African Energy forum in Paris, various stakeholders, including civil society, human rights groups, environmental groups, governments, and the private sector, reinforced their commitment to tackling energy poverty and promoting industrialization.

Discussion topics included investment strategies, sustainable energy development, and economic growth, all while ensuring environmental responsibility. Key projects cited include the TotalEnergies-led Mozambique LNG and the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, which aim to harness Africa’s resources beneficially.

Despite unmet energy needs, global energy lending is retracting as major banks exit the African fossil fuel industry. The declaration calls for equitable energy finance and urges Western nations to support Africa’s industrial growth. Stakeholders advocate for diversifying capital sources and creating an investment-friendly regulatory environment.
