Alstom and DT Infrastructure have been awarded a €1bn (AUD$1.6bn) contract by the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia. The project involves designing, supplying, installing, testing, commissioning, and maintaining a new Automatic Train Control System for Perth's suburban rail network.

This historic project will replace the existing signalling and train control systems with Alstom’s Urbalis Communications-based Train Control (CBTC) technology. The upgrade will enable a 40% increase in network capacity while offering energy-saving benefits and top-notch cybersecurity. The project aims to minimize disruption to commuters and is expected to create over 750 local jobs, including opportunities for local and Aboriginal businesses.

A testament to its scale, this initiative will mark Perth as the third Australian city to utilize Alstom’s Urbalis CBTC solution, joining approximately 190 other global metro lines. The project, part of the METRONET program, will also focus on upskilling Public Transport Authority staff and enhancing the local supply chain.

Darren Crichton, CEO of DT Infrastructure, expressed enthusiasm over the enhanced connectivity for Perth residents and visitors, highlighting the project's potential to optimize the rail network's capabilities. Pascal Dupond, Managing Director of Alstom Australia and New Zealand, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering world-class signalling technology in partnership with the Western Australian government.
