Amprion Secures Investment from Apollo Global Management
Amprion GmbH, a major transmission system operator in Germany, has announced a new joint venture with RWE and Apollo Global Management. This venture involves Apollo acquiring a 25.1% stake in Amprion from RWE for €3.2 billion. The transaction aims to fuel further investments in Amprion’s transmission grid and support its growth strategy.
The agreement, pending regulatory approval, should be finalized by the fourth quarter of 2025. RWE will maintain operational control over the joint venture, while M31 Beteiligungsgesellschaft retains its 74.9% stake in Amprion. The partnership reflects RWE’s commitment to enhancing grid infrastructure, in line with Germany’s energy transition goals.
Amprion plans a significant investment of around €36.4 billion to expand its grid by 2029, backed by this new equity. Apollo’s experience in infrastructure complements Amprion's long-term business model, bolstering confidence in future returns.
