Amprion Sets Record Investment for Grid Expansion Acceleration

Amprion GmbH, a key player in transmission system operations, has reported a substantial escalation in grid expansion efforts with investments reaching an unprecedented €3 billion in the previous financial year and projecting approximately €27.5 billion by 2028. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing and expanding the transmission grid substantially.

Dr Hans-Jürgen Brick, CEO of Amprion, highlighted the positive impact of legislative measures on expediting grid expansion, allowing the company to initiate key projects sooner than planned. Among these, the A-Nord direct current link stands out, expected to pioneer the transport of significant volumes of green electricity across Germany by 2027.

The company's dynamic approach has tripled its grid expansion investments since 2021. Brick stresses the importance of a conducive regulatory framework to align with the ambitious targets of the energy transition, advocating for a competitive pre-tax equity interest rate of 7.5% for investments.

Amprion also reported a robust business performance for 2023, with a notable expansion of its workforce and a significant increase in key earnings figures. Adjusted EBITDA and net income saw year-on-year rises of approximately 27% and 49%, respectively, attributed to heightened investment activity and growth in the regulated asset base.

Lastly, Amprion is proactive in complying with the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), updating its sustainability report while enhancing its ESG Risk Rating, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable operations amidst rapid expansion.
