Anaheim Bio Secures €40 Million Series A for ANA-1 Clinical Development
Anaheim Bio, a preclinical-stage biotech company from Leiden, Netherlands, has raised €40 million in a Series A financing. This funding supports the development of ANA-1, a small molecule therapeutic targeting calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD). The investment is backed by Droia Ventures, Frazier Life Sciences, RTW, Novartis Venture Fund, RV Invest, and Thuja Capital. ANA-1, set to enter the clinic by 2027, aims to address the underlying CPPD pathology, impacting millions of global patients lacking targeted therapies.
CPPD, a form of inflammatory arthritis, leads to severe joint pain due to crystal deposits. Current treatments only manage symptoms without addressing crystal build-up. CEO Ilan Ganot emphasizes the potential of ANA-1 to transform existing treatment protocols. Anaheim Bio emerged from Alesta Therapeutics, earlier acquired by BioMarin, with previous Alesta investors reinvesting in the venture. Illuminating its leadership, the Board includes members from Droia Ventures and Novartis Venture Fund.
