ANDRITZ Secures Significant Contract for Cahora Bassa's Rehabilitation

Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), Mozambique’s premier hydropower producer, has awarded ANDRITZ a pivotal contract for the refurbishment of the Cahora Bassa plant. This facility, Mozambique’s largest, plays a crucial role in both energy supply and regional economic development. The contract is valued in the mid three-digit million-euro range and was part of ANDRITZ’s Q4 2024 orders.

Operational since 1975, the 2,075 MW plant on the Zambezi River generates over half of Mozambique's electricity and exports power to adjacent nations. The REABSUL II project aims to boost efficiency and reliability, raising turbine capacity by over 4% to 433 MW each. ANDRITZ will provide five new generators and turbine runners, plus advanced control systems.

Over three years, work will entail equipment design and site prep, with unit replacements conducted sequentially, maintaining continuous plant operation. This project marks a strategic effort by ANDRITZ to bolster Mozambique’s renewable energy framework.
