Arcavi and Waga Energy launch a biomethane plant in Champagne-Ardenne
A new biomethane production unit began operations in Éteignières, in the Ardennes, on April 26, 2024. This project is a collaboration between Arcavi, which manages waste in the region, and Waga Energy, a company specializing in the valorization of biogas. The installation uses WAGABOX® technology, patented by Waga Energy, to convert biogas from waste into biomethane, a renewable alternative to fossil natural gas.
This unit has the capacity to process up to 600 m3 of gas per hour and produce approximately 25 GWh of biomethane annually, which would provide energy to more than 2,500 homes while reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 3,000 tonnes each year. The system began by replacing one of the cogeneration engines at the Ardennes Waste Recovery and Elimination Facility and plans to replace the second the following year.
The initiative also benefited from financial support from the Ecological Transition Agency, receiving a grant of €311,260 to improve the energy efficiency of the installation as part of the France 2030 plan.
