Aurubis Commissions Modernized Tankhouse in Lünen
Aurubis AG has launched a refurbished tankhouse for copper production at its recycling plant in Lünen, Germany. The €60 million investment aims to increase production capacity by 10%, generating up to 210,000 tons of copper cathodes annually. The upgrade signifies Aurubis' commitment to the Lünen site and the broader circular economy.
The modernized facility also allows the processing of other metals such as gold, tin, and nickel. It enhances Aurubis’ core business and supports the energy transition with responsibly produced metals. COO Inge Hofkens emphasizes the role of Lünen as Europe's largest multimetal recycling site.
Despite the extensive refurbishment, the facility maintained 80% operational capacity during construction. The upgrades include the refurbishment of tankhouse basins, infrastructure improvements, and advanced automation with robot technology.
Lünen Mayor Jürgen Kleine-Frauns highlights the investment as crucial for the region’s prosperity, climate protection, and job security. The tankhouse refurbishment underscores Aurubis' role in modern, responsible industrial operations.
