Banff Sunshine Village Announces 94th Annual Slush Cup Event
On May 20, 2024, Banff Sunshine Village will celebrate the end of the 23/24 Winter Ski and Snowboard Season with its 94th Slush Cup. This iconic event, held in the Canadian Rockies, is North America's longest-running end-of-ski-season pond skimming event. A hundred competitors from around the globe will compete for the titles "Mrs. SLUSH CUP" and "Mr. SLUSH CUP," along with a $1,000 cash prize and a season pass for 24/25.
The event has its origins in a 1928 dare between two friends and has evolved into a significant festive gathering. Kendra Scurfield, VP of Brand and Communications, highlights that the once humble staff party has transformed into a much-anticipated extravaganza. The celebration starts with the Slushshine Rail Jam on May 18, followed by the Watergate Banked Slalom on May 19. The weekend culminates in the Slush Cup, featuring participants braving a slushy pool in elaborate costumes, judged by a panel of celebrities.
