Blue Laser Fusion Wins Prestigious US Department of Energy INFUSE Project Award
Blue Laser Fusion Inc. (BLF), a fusion energy company, has received a notable US Department of Energy (DOE) INFUSE project award. This collaboration with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) focuses on developing a high-energy pulsed laser for inertial fusion energy.
The project will utilize an optical enhancement cavity (OEC) to achieve the necessary pulse energy and repetition rates for efficient fusion energy generation. The expertise of Caltech's Adhikari Research Group, led by Professor Rana Adhikari, will be instrumental. The DOE INFUSE initiative aims to accelerate innovative fusion energy technologies with a $4.6M budget allocated in 2024.
Dr. Shuji Nakamura, CEO of Blue Laser Fusion, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. "By cooperating with Caltech, Blue Laser Fusion will have access to world-class expertise and capabilities to advance our OEC laser innovations," he stated.
Founded in 2022 by Dr. Shuji Nakamura, BLF aims to commercialize high-efficiency, cost-effective fusion technology. The company's innovations include a megajoule-class pulse energy laser and a low-cost solid fuel target. Blue Laser Fusion holds over 50 patents globally, covering various aspects of fusion technology.
