Brick Award 24: How Architecture Contributes to a Sustainable Future

Vienna, 7 June 2024 – At the Brick Award ceremony, international experts in architecture explored sustainable and affordable construction solutions. The event, initiated by Wienerberger in 2004, highlighted key aspects like resource management, public spaces, and shared infrastructure as essential for future construction.

Heimo Scheuch, Wienerberger CEO, emphasized the construction sector's role in achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Innovative methods can reduce the sector's significant energy use and CO2 emissions.

Jens Linnet of BOGL stressed material awareness and reusing natural assets for cost-effective and sustainable projects. Ingrid van der Heijden advocated for building reuse to limit embodied carbon.

Renske van der Stoep from Roffaa and Tom McGlynn of Níall McLaughlin Architects highlighted the importance of collaboration with end users for targeted, affordable solutions.
