Carrefour has announced its intent to sell its Italian operations to NewPrinces Group. This decision is part of Carrefour's strategic review initiated earlier this year. Carrefour Italy, comprising 1,188 stores, recorded gross sales of €4.2 billion in 2024 but faced financial challenges, reporting negative Routine Operating Income and Net Free Cash Flow.

The sale, anticipated to finalize by the end of 2025, includes all Carrefour activities in Italy. The transaction will result in a net treasury impact of -€240 million for Carrefour, which includes financial contributions to facilitate the sale. NewPrinces Group, a significant player in the European agri-food sector, is committed to investing at least €200 million to enhance Carrefour Italy's competitiveness. The completion of the transaction awaits regulatory approvals and consultations with employee representatives.
