Char Tech Initiates Commissioning at Thorold Renewable Facility
CHAR Technologies Ltd. has begun commissioning at its Thorold Renewable Energy Facility, marking its first commercial venture in renewable energy and biocarbon production. The startup includes feedstock receiving and handling systems, with high-temperature pyrolysis (HTP) kiln commissioning expected soon. The company aims for a Phase 1 biocarbon production rate of 5,000 tonnes per year by end of Q1 2026.
The commissioning process will see systems brought online in stages, beginning with feedstock systems to support stable material flow before the HTP kiln comes into operation. Production volumes are expected to increase as systems are tested and integrated.
Upon completing Phase 1, the company plans Phase 2, which will include a second HTP kiln, methanation equipment, and RNG pipeline construction. CHAR Tech owns 50% of the facility in partnership with the BMI Group.
