Chengdu Strengthens Its Position as Global Innovation Hub

Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in China, has positioned itself as a major global innovation center, rising to 24th in the 2025 Global Innovation Index. This leap forward correlates with China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), pushing the Chengdu-Chongqing region as a significant sci-tech innovation center.

The Western (Chengdu) Science City is pivotal in this transformation, housing national laboratories and innovation centers. A total of 96 national innovation platforms, including the National Precision Medicine Industrial Innovation Center, have been established. Chengdu also launched 65 collaborative projects with research institutions.

Future industries, such as humanoid robotics, were prioritized, with a substantial 100 billion yuan fund supporting hard-tech startups. Moreover, Chengdu's online and offline service systems have facilitated innovation commercialization, serving companies over 200,000 times.

Chengdu's initiatives include an intelligent safety network for infrastructure, enhancing urban living with AI-powered solutions. The city boasts over 14,500 high-tech companies and numerous innovation demonstration bases. Intellectual property policies have propelled local universities to advance more than 2,000 projects.
