Chicago Restaurant Owner Faces Legal Battle After Eviction from Loyola University Premises

On April 22, 2024, the first court hearing for the eviction case of Onward restaurant from Loyola University of Chicago was held at the Daley Center. The case will continue with the next hearing scheduled for June 24 at the same venue.

Owner Michael Olszewski, noted for his successful Michelin-star establishments, invested heavily in transforming the space located at the Lake Shore Campus into a flagship fine-dining venue. However, in March 2021, the university issued an eviction notice, significantly affecting the restaurant's operations and future plans.

Olszewski expressed disappointment over the abrupt notice and the university's decision to limit his time to reclaim possessions, which resulted in substantial financial losses. The situation reflects broader tensions between business operations and institutional decisions.
