SirPAD Trial Confirms Efficacy of Sirolimus-Coated Balloons in PAD Treatment

Concept Medical Inc. revealed the primary results of the SirPAD trial, a significant study of a Sirolimus-coated balloon for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), at the ACC 2026 Scientific Sessions. This groundbreaking trial involved 1,252 patients with femoropopliteal or below-the-knee PAD. Patients were randomized to receive either the MagicTouch PTA sirolimus-coated balloon or an uncoated balloon angioplasty.

Results indicated a reduction in major adverse limb events among those treated with the sirolimus-coated balloon, with an occurrence rate of 8.8% compared to 15% for the uncoated balloon group. This marked a median unbiased risk difference of -4.9%. The trial's outcomes suggest that the MagicTouch PTA offers a superior alternative for vascular intervention.

Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the SirPAD study promises to influence future guidelines and expand treatment options within the PAD community. The trial's results stress the necessity of scientific validation for meaningful medical innovation.
