Curtin University Awarded A$5 Million ARENA Grant for Kotai Hydrogen Project

Velox Energy Materials Inc. announced a significant milestone in its collaboration with Curtin University's Hydrogen Storage Research Group. The group has secured an A$5 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) under the Transformative Research Accelerating Commercialisation Program. This funding aims to propel the Kotai Hydrogen Project, focusing on advancing hydrogen transportation technology, into commercial viability.

The project, which benefits from a total funding pool of A$16.5 million, seeks to enhance the production of sodium borohydride for hydrogen storage and establish a pilot plant. This project highlights the potential of sodium borohydride in hydrogen transportation, emphasizing its efficiency over traditional hydrogen, ammonia, or liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs).

Velox Energy Materials has secured an option over the entirety of the intellectual property generated through the project, affirming its commitment to leading the charge in hydrogen storage and transportation solutions. ARENA's backing underscores a shared ambition to bolster the hydrogen sector and facilitate a transition to renewable energy.

With the project led by esteemed hydrogen storage experts Professor Craig Buckley and Associate Professor Mark Paskevicius, Velox and Curtin University aim to drive significant advancements in the hydrogen sector. ARENA and Curtin University's support symbolizes a significant leap forward in addressing the challenges of hydrogen storage and transport, paving the way for a more sustainable energy future.
