Drowning Prevention Goes Digital With Dr. Tom’s Lifeguard Vision App
The Aquatic Safety Research Group has launched "Dr. Tom's Lifeguard Vision," the first mobile app designed to simulate real drowning behaviors, now available on both Apple Store and Google Play Store. This innovative tool aims at enhancing drowning prevention through heightened awareness and recognition skills among parents, caregivers, lifeguards, and aquatic supervisors.
The app boasts 3-dimensional environments with realistic swimmer animations and pool sounds to offer an immersive training experience. It is built on drowning behaviors derived from actual cases, making its scenarios authentic and highly applicable for real-world drowning prevention. The application allows for broad access, offering individuals and aquatic professionals alike the ability to improve vigilance and response times to potential drowning incidents.
For aquatic facilities, the app also provides a licensing option, featuring analytics for tracking training effectiveness. Led by water safety experts Dr. Tom Griffiths and Dr. Rachel Griffiths, the initiative aims not for profit but to empower the aquatic community with critical preventive tools against drowning.
