Edison's Analysis Highlights VinaCapital Vietnam Fund Decline
Edison Investment Research has published a report on the VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund (VOF) for the year ending March 2025. The fund's Net Asset Value (NAV) per share saw a decrease of 4.7% on a sterling total return basis. This downturn was mainly due to profit-taking activities among some of VOF's major holdings. The fund's performance lagged behind the VN Index, which had a smaller loss of 2.4%. The weaker US dollar contributed to this with a modest increase of 0.4% in dollar terms. Despite recent setbacks, VOF has outperformed the index over the past decade by 1.3 percentage points annually.
In April, the fund experienced further challenges following a tariff announcement by the US, causing a market sell-off. Consequently, the VN Index fell by 4%, while VOF’s NAV declined by 5% from the end of March. Nevertheless, VOF remains actively involved with its investee companies, aiding them in navigating economic uncertainties.
