ENGIE Reaches 1.8 GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems in the U.S.
ENGIE has announced surpassing 1.8 GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) capacity in operation in the U.S. Since January 2024, the company has added 1 GW of new BESS capacity. This achievement solidifies ENGIE's leadership in the energy transition in the U.S., where it already holds substantial renewable assets.
The company now operates 24 BESS projects across the U.S., including 6 commissioned this year. The growth was bolstered by acquiring Broad Reach Power in August 2023, adding industry expertise and solutions to ENGIE's portfolio. This expansion enhances grid flexibility and renewable energy integration.
ENGIE's projects range from standalone BESS to co-located facilities with large solar projects like the 320 MW Five Wells solar in Texas. Their BESS portfolio, capable of 1.8 GWh dispatchable energy, also provides ancillary services for grid stability.
In addition to storage, ENGIE has 8 GW of solar and wind projects in North America, furthering its role in the region's energy transition.
