Europlasma receives pilot furnace in China to process fly ash
Europlasma has announced the completion of a new pilot furnace in China for the treatment of fly ash (REFIOM). Designed by its Chinese subsidiary and Hangzhou University, this furnace is innovative in its ability to vitrify heavy metals from waste, thereby minimizing their hazards. Its energy consumption is less than 1.3 MW.h per tonne.
The project is part of a partnership with Hangzhou Xiaoshan City Green Energy to create a 20,000-ton-per-year treatment facility in Hangzhou. The project represents a sustainable alternative to landfilling, which is banned in China. Testing of the furnace will continue with other waste and is expected to last four months. This technology promises to reduce energy costs while providing a viable waste neutralization solution.
