Fibroid Foundation Champions National Menstrual Health Awareness Month and Congressional Briefing
The Fibroid Foundation has declared May as the National Menstrual Health Awareness Month for 2024, with the theme "Menstrual Health - Lack of Information at Every Phase." This awareness campaign coincides with International Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28.
Congresswoman Grace Meng from New York has been recognized for her efforts in advocating for menstrual health, having introduced House Resolution 351. This resolution acknowledges the detrimental effects of menstruation stigmatization and supports the designation of May as the awareness month. A Congressional Briefing, endorsing this initiative, is scheduled for May 8, 2024, at the Rayburn House Office Building, hosted by the Foundation in collaboration with notable organizations such as PERIOD, The Alliance for Period Supplies, The National Menopause Foundation, and The Society for Women's Health Research.
The World Health Organization emphasizes that proper menstrual health encompasses access to menstrual products, education, sanitation facilities, empathic care, and an environment that views menstruation positively. The Fibroid Foundation focuses on eradicating the stigma surrounding menstruation through education, advocacy, and research, aiming to improve women's healthcare globally.
