Focus Graphite Advanced Materials Inc. has provided an update on its patent applications for silicon-enhanced spheroidized graphite technology. This technology offers a breakthrough in lithium-ion battery performance. In the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South Korea, the patent applications remain pending. The Canadian application is undergoing expedited review to hasten commercialization.

The technology enhances lithium-ion battery anodes by integrating multiple silicon layers during spheroidization. This approach addresses charge-induced volume expansion and solid electrolyte interphase issues, improving mechanical integrity and battery longevity.

Recent tests in coin cells show increased battery performance, with capacities rising significantly. Focus intends to validate the technology in large commercial batteries and potentially license it to major manufacturers.
