Former Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe to Chair TradeMark Africa's Board

TradeMark Africa (TMA) has appointed H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, as its new Board Chair. Desalegn succeeds Ambassador Erastus Mwencha, who completed an eight-year term. His appointment comes as TMA embarks on a seven-year strategy aiming to boost African exports, support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and expand operations across West and Southern Africa.

With experience at both national and continental levels, Desalegn’s leadership will guide TMA in reducing transport costs, improving market access for SMEs, and positioning Africa as a leader in green trade. His tenure as Ethiopian Prime Minister saw sustained economic growth, making him a valuable asset as TMA intensifies support for African trade policies.

H.E. Desalegn will lead TMA's efforts, starting with the Trade Development Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, in December 2024. He holds advanced degrees in water and environmental engineering, and organisational leadership, and has served in various governmental and international roles, underscoring his qualifications for this pivotal position.
