Gerdau Graphene Leads in Establishing Graphene Standards in Brazil
Brazil adopts an internationally recognized standard for graphene characterization, spearheaded by Gerdau Graphene and the Brazilian National Standards Forum (ABNT). The standard aligns with global specifications set by ISO/TC 229 - Nanotechnologies. This move positions Brazil as a key player in the global nanotechnology market, particularly in the graphene sector.
From April 8-12, 2024, Gerdau Graphene also hosted an international nanotechnology consortium in São Paulo. The event gathered leading researchers and industry experts to discuss a wide range of topics from safety to product application, highlighting Brazil's active role in nanotechnology advancements.
Valdirene Sullas Teixeira Peressinotto, of Gerdau Graphene, emphasized that the lack of standardization hindered graphene commercialization previously. The new standard will assist in the proper categorization and use of graphene-enhanced products, expected to drive significant industry growth.
Brazil is recognized as the third largest graphite supplier globally, promising substantial growth in the graphene market which is expected to exceed $6 billion within five years.
