Global Advanced Metals Partners With Department of Defense to Re-Establish Niobium Oxide Production Capabilities

Global Advanced Metals (GAM), a notable producer of metallurgical products, has announced a partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) to re-establish niobium oxide production. Supported by a $26.4 million grant from the Manufacturing Capability Expansion and Investment Prioritization directorate, the initiative will leverage GAM's existing tantalum production in Boyertown, Pennsylvania.

The DOD's financial support aims to quicken the development of niobium oxide production, a first in the U.S. in over 30 years. Niobium oxide is essential for manufacturing high-purity superalloys used in advanced aircraft and defense platforms. This partnership is part of the DOD’s strategy to bolster the U.S. aerospace and defense industrial base.

GAM’s CEO, Andrew O'Donovan, highlighted the significance of this project in reducing supply vulnerabilities. U.S. Senator Bob Casey emphasized the historical contribution of Pennsylvania in supporting national security, while U.S. Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan noted the importance of reducing reliance on foreign minerals and creating local jobs.
