Holcim Invests in Sublime Systems to Scale Up Low-Carbon Technology

Holcim has invested in Sublime Systems, a startup specializing in low-carbon cement technology, to advance its decarbonization efforts. This investment will support the development of Sublime's first commercial manufacturing facility in Massachusetts, USA. Holcim obtains a significant share of the produced Sublime Cement™ and the rights to co-develop future large-scale facilities.

Sublime Systems uses a proprietary CO₂-free electrochemical process to produce low-carbon cement. The new facility is set to produce 30,000 tons of cement per year by 2026. This partnership aligns with Holcim's comprehensive strategy to decarbonize construction and meets its 2030 and 2050 net-zero targets.

Nollaig Forrest, Chief Sustainability Officer at Holcim, emphasized the transformative potential of Sublime’s technology. Dr. Leah Ellis, CEO and Co-Founder of Sublime Systems, highlighted the importance of scale in the cement industry and expressed optimism about the collaboration’s impact.

Sublime’s technology represents a significant shift from traditional cement manufacturing, using clean electricity and carbon-free raw materials. This project adds to Holcim’s extensive portfolio of decarbonization technologies, which includes innovative low-emission materials and energy solutions.

Holcim remains a leader in sustainable building solutions, continually expanding its range of low-carbon technologies.
