IAVI and IPD Join Forces to Boost Vaccine Development in Africa
IAVI and the Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) have signed a partnership agreement to enhance vaccine development, manufacturing, and access within Africa. This collaboration aims to address priority pathogens that significantly impact the region, aligning with Africa's vaccine manufacturing goals and global pandemic preparedness priorities.
The agreement will initially focus on advancing IAVI's rVSV-Lassa vaccine candidate. By utilizing a common vaccine production platform, the partnership seeks to streamline vaccine manufacturing and commercialize novel vaccines targeting endemic and emerging infectious diseases.
This collaboration supports Africa's New Public Health Order, led by Africa CDC, aiming for the continent to produce over 60% of its vaccine demands by 2040. The partnership emphasizes creating solutions for equitable vaccine access, ultimately strengthening both local and global health security.
