Cooperative Leaders Launch Global Economic Manifesto at Doha Summit
At the World Summit for Social Development in Doha, cooperative and mutual leaders introduced a new manifesto for a global economy. The initiative, named the Cooperatives and Mutuals Leadership Circle (CM50), was announced by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA). This coalition includes leaders like Jayen Mehta of Amul and Howard Brodsky of CCA Global Partners.
The Doha Summit recognized cooperatives as pivotal for sustainable development, emphasizing their role in entrepreneurship, job creation, and social inclusion. The event also marked the close of the United Nations 2025 International Year of Cooperatives (IYC2025) and kicked off the ICA's 2026-2030 Strategy.
The ICA highlighted cooperatives' impact with a report showing the top 300 cooperatives generating a combined turnover of USD 2.8 trillion, rivaling major global economies. This underscores the significant economic and social contributions of democratic and people-centered businesses.
