International Students Experience Baisha's San Yue San Festival
From March 30 to 31, Baisha Li Autonomous County in Hainan Province, China, hosted the "San Yue San" festival. This event showcases the traditions of the Li and Miao ethnic groups. College students Assima Bissen and Cyrus Huang attended from the Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone. They engaged in various cultural activities, including dancing around a bonfire and a long-table banquet.
Assima, a Kazakh student, wore traditional attire and participated alongside locals. Meanwhile, art major Cyrus Huang played the suona, a traditional Chinese instrument, connecting deeply with Baisha's folk culture. The festival promotes ethnic unity through singing, rituals, and intangible heritage skills like Li brocade weaving.
Baisha, known for its rich traditions and natural beauty, remains a significant cultural hub. Its vibrant mix of lush landscapes and ethnic vitality continues to attract nature enthusiasts and cultural explorers.
