IOC to Use Alibaba Cloud's Energy Expert for Efficient Power Management at Paris 2024

PARIS, FRANCE - Alibaba Cloud has announced that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will implement its Energy Expert solution to enhance power consumption analysis at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This marks the first instance of migrating competition venue power data to a cloud-based platform, enabling precise analysis and better planning.

Energy Expert will be deployed across all 35 competition venues. It centralizes energy data into a user-friendly dashboard, integrating factors like electricity use, venue capacity, and weather conditions. The AI-powered tool will offer forecasts and recommendations to optimize power demand.

Ilario Corna, Chief Information and Technology Officer at the IOC, noted that electricity consumption significantly contributes to the Games' carbon footprint. Energy Expert's insights aim to improve energy efficiency at future Olympic events. Real-time data from various operational spaces on venues will also be collected using 100 smart meters to provide detailed analyses.

The tool will draw on data from previous Games, including London 2012 and Tokyo 2020, to support comprehensive assessments of energy trends. William Xiong, Vice President of Alibaba Cloud, emphasized that the insights will help make the Olympics more sustainable.

In addition to the venues, AI-driven recommendations will optimize energy consumption at Alibaba’s temporary exhibition spaces during Paris 2024. The solution was initially applied at the 2023 Olympic Esports Week in Singapore and now assists over 3,000 customers globally.
