JP McHale Pest Management Launches LymeShield System to Address Rising Lyme Disease Cases

In Buchanan, New York, JP McHale Pest Management in partnership with US Biologic has introduced the LymeShield System as part of a response to the national increase in Lyme Disease cases. During Lyme Disease Awareness Month, the companies unveiled this innovative pest management technology aimed at inoculating mice against Lyme Disease. The technology works on the understanding that mice, when not infected, do not transmit the disease to ticks. This could potentially cut the chain of transmission to humans.

The LymeShield System uses a pellet-form technology that has received conditional approval from the USDA and is currently available in New York State. This strategy aligns with JP McHale's mission to employ advanced, environmentally-friendly pest management solutions. LymeShield will be accessible not only to homeowners but also businesses and public lands, including parks across Westchester County. The system involves timed application stations that facilitate controlled pellet distribution to mice.

Jim McHale, president of JP McHale Pest Management, emphasized the effectiveness of the LymeShield System in integrating into their current pest management strategies. He stated that such technologies reduce the reliance on biocides and are safer for the environment and public health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that Lyme Disease is the leading vector-borne disease in the U.S., with an estimated annual impact on 476,000 citizens.
