Dublin Composer Mary Dickenson-Auner Revived at Vienna's Musikverein

Mary Dickenson-Auner, a Dublin-born composer, returns to prominence with her string quartets premiering at Vienna's Musikverein after being unpublished for eighty years. Despite her promising career, she was silenced in 1938 due to holding a British passport amidst rising political tensions. Her music is now being rediscovered, starting with her Fourth String Quartet performed by the Auner Quartett, featuring her descendant Daniel Auner.

The concert cycle "Jenseits vom tanzenden Wien" highlights composers affected by exile, including Alexander Zemlinsky and Egon Wellesz. Baritone Thomas Hampson will perform songs by displaced composers. The cycle is supported by figures such as Peter Marboe and emphasizes forgotten works, projecting Dickenson-Auner among notable contemporaries.
