Kintetsu World Express Partners with Japan Airlines for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project

Kintetsu World Express, Inc. (KWE), located in Tokyo, has formalized an agreement with Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) to become a launch customer in a pioneering demonstration project focusing on the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This collaboration marks KWE's foray into sustainable fuel usage within the aviation sector. SAF, known for reducing CO2 emissions by around 80% over its life cycle compared to traditional jet fuel, presents a significant advancement in efforts to decarbonize the aviation industry.

Despite SAF's potential, current global production falls below 1% of total aviation fuel consumption, suggesting a need for several more years before Japan sees a full-scale production and a stable supply chain. JAL, a key business ally for KWE, will oversee a demonstration program covering various stages from SAF procurement to issuing CO2 emission reduction certificates. KWE’s participation underscores its commitment to environmentally friendly practices and the decarbonization of air cargo transport, a vital component of its operations.
