Holcim Secures EU Funding for Pioneering CCS Project in Romania
Holcim Group Services Ltd has been awarded an EU Innovation Fund grant for its Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in Campulung, Romania. This initiative aims to produce near-zero cement by 2032, playing a significant role in the EU's Clean Industrial Deal.
The Carbon Hub CPT 01 project will stand as Eastern Europe's first full-scale onshore CCS project. It targets an annual production of 2 million tons of near-zero cement. Holcim's initiative is part of eight EU-supported CCS projects, reinforcing the company’s NextGen Growth 2030 strategy by turning sustainable growth into profitable opportunities.
Romania offers a robust industrial base and favorable conditions for CO2 storage. The project is expected to drive sustainable innovation and create high-quality jobs in the region. Carmeuse is a key partner in establishing a strong CCS value chain.
