Leclanché launches tests for its new PFAS-free cells
Leclanché, a Swiss firm, is rolling out new lithium-ion battery cells without PFAS and with a niobium oxide anode, marking a breakthrough in environmentally friendly battery technologies. These cells, developed to meet upcoming European regulations, exclude PFAS and other toxic solvents thanks to a water-based manufacturing method used by Leclanché for more than 13 years.
The company announces that the first samples will be delivered to its industrial partners in the coming weeks for validation. This development comes as the use of PFAS in industrial processes, particularly in batteries for electric vehicles, is subject to increased restrictions in Europe due to their potential harmful effects on health and the environment.
Leclanché hopes with this innovation to provide a response to regulatory requirements while offering high performance and fast charging capabilities, characteristic of these new lithium-ion cells.
