Lhyfe and Deutsche Bahn Cooperate for Climate-Neutral Trains Using Green Hydrogen
Lhyfe has constructed a green hydrogen production plant for Deutsche Bahn's innovation hub in Tübingen. This facility has an annual capacity of up to 30 tons of green hydrogen, equivalent to 1 MW of installed electrolysis capacity. This marks Lhyfe's first operational site in Germany.
DB Energie, a Deutsche Bahn subsidiary, is using the green hydrogen for its "H2goesRail" project, testing climate-neutral hydrogen trains between Tübingen, Horb, and Pforzheim. The project aims to showcase the economic and environmental viability of hydrogen-powered trains as a clean alternative to diesel trains.
The Tübingen site is a step towards a more autonomous hydrogen production system. This includes integrated production, compression, storage, and refueling of hydrogen. Lhyfe plans further expansion, with a 10 MW plant under construction in Schwäbisch Gmünd and more projects across Europe.
