MicroVision to Acquire FMCW Lidar Business from Scantinel Photonics
MicroVision, Inc. has announced an agreement to acquire Scantinel Photonics GmbH's business and assets. Scantinel, a developer of FMCW lidar technology, is initially targeting the commercial vehicle market. The acquisition, supported by partnerships with the Zeiss Group, Scania, and PhotonVentures, aims to commercialize Scantinel's lidar technology.
MicroVision plans to finance a new German entity, Scantinel GmbH, to facilitate the acquisition. The deal involves around 20 engineers based in Ulm, Germany, and is expected to close by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.
This strategic move expands MicroVision's product portfolio, integrating Scantinel's long-range lidar into its offerings, enhancing solutions for autonomy and mobility in various markets, including commercial and passenger vehicles.
