Moolec Science SA Secures New US Patent for Molecular Farming in Safflower

Moolec Science SA, a Luxembourg-based Molecular Farming food-ingredient company, has been granted a patent family in the United States. This patent pertains to their SPC2 product which utilizes groundbreaking Molecular Farming technology developed in safflower plants. The patent, effective until 2041, grants exclusivity to Moolec's US subsidiary AG Biomolecules LLC.

The newly patented technology includes engineered safflower plants and seeds that express bovine chymosin. Moolec, known for its innovation in the biotech industry, was the first to introduce a product based on this technology for the food industry. This pioneering technology was traditionally confined to pharmaceutical uses but has now been expanded into food production, showcasing significant potential for sustainable biotechnological advancements.

Dr. Amit Dhingra, Moolec Science's Chief Science Officer, highlighted the importance of the patent, stating it as a critical tool for intellectual property protection and a foundation for future product development. The technology also covers DNA vectors and sequences essential for the modification of the safflower plant. Moolec has filed a parallel patent application in Argentina, expanding its strategic presence in crucial markets.
