An Encounter with China: Celebrating Chinese New Year
On February 10, a unique celebration of the Chinese New Year took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. This event, titled "An Encounter with China: Chinese New Year," showcased various facets of Nanjing's rich cultural heritage. Representatives from over 100 countries gathered for this cultural exchange aimed at fostering international understanding.
The Spring Festival was officially recognized by UNESCO in December 2024, emphasizing its global cultural significance. Khaled El-Enany, UNESCO's Director-General, noted the festival's worldwide influence. Chinese Ambassador Yang Xinyu commended Nanjing for its cultural contributions, highlighting its status as a "City of Literature."
Highlights included the Nanjing City Wall and its Yunjin brocade weaving, both acknowledged by UNESCO. Attendees participated in cultural activities like "Rubbing to Transmit Cultural Heritage" and admired traditional crafts. This event also featured a dialogue on heritage preservation, emphasizing Nanjing's commitment to cultural exchange and artistic innovation.
