Nanking Safety Zone Peace Hiking 2024 Initiates in Nanjing
The 8th "Gratitude: Nanking Safety Zone" International Peace Hiking commenced on November 16 in Nanjing, China. Over 200 participants, including both locals and internationals, gathered at Nanjing Normal University's Suiyuan campus to honor foreign nationals who aided Chinese refugees during the Nanjing Massacre.
The event featured an 8.7-kilometer walk traversing historic sites such as John Rabe's former residence and the area's International Safety Zone Committee location. Participants paid tribute to figures like Minnie Vautrin, who helped establish the safety zone for over 250,000 refugees during the massacre.
Siemens and BSH Home Appliances employees laid flowers in respect, while participants examined historical documents and expressed peace wishes on postcards. The event concluded with these cards being placed in a "time capsule." Organized by the Memorial Hall and Peace Research Institute, it included a diverse group of attendees.
