NABR Challenges IUCN's Conservation Status of Long-Tailed Macaques

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has reaffirmed the "Endangered" status for long-tailed macaques, a decision contested by the National Association for Biomedical Research (NABR). The association argues that the research by Hansen and colleagues, cited by the IUCN, distorts scientific data. Concerns about potential conflicts of interest among these researchers have also been raised by Dr. Hank Jenkins.

However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently dismissed similar findings, questioning their credibility. Despite controversies, long-tailed macaques play a vital role in biomedical research, contributing to significant medical advancements such as vaccine development. NABR President Matthew R. Bailey argues the species is not at risk and insists the IUCN status undermines scientific integrity. NABR vows to continue advocating for the species' role in public health.
