Neoen Secures Major 380 MW Battery Storage Contract in Ontario, Canada
Neoen has been selected to build a 380 MW/4-hour energy storage system in Ontario, Canada after winning a competitive bid by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). This project, named Grey Owl Storage, will be constructed near Arran-Elderslie in Bruce County and is expected to be operational by early 2028.
The contract, set for a 20-year duration, positions the facility to significantly bolster Ontario’s electricity reliability by storing energy during low-demand periods and releasing it during peak demand. This mechanism helps stabilize the grid and accommodates the province’s escalating energy requirements. Upon completion, the Grey Owl Storage will be both the second largest battery storage in Canada and the largest within Neoen’s extensive portfolio.
Neoen, distinguished by their commitment to renewable energy, is intensifying its presence in Canada. Its operations include a soon-to-be-commissioned 93 MWp Fox Coulee solar farm in Alberta. With the addition of Grey Owl Storage, Neoen nearly amasses half a gigawatt of secured capacity in the country, underscoring a robust expansion strategy in the Canadian market.
