New Breakthrough in HAI Prevention: Primel's Active Hand Coating Kills C. diff Spores in 30 Seconds

Primel, a leader in infection prevention solutions, unveiled the results of a new study, demonstrating that its Active Hand Coating eradicates Clostridium difficile (C. diff) spores effectively within just 30 seconds, achieving more than 99.99% sporicidal activity. Targeting a major healthcare challenge, C. diff infections cost the global health system an estimated $1.7 billion annually due to its resistance to antibiotics and robust defense mechanisms.

This innovative product establishes new standards by proving its efficacy under both clean and dirty conditions, based on the European standard EN 17126. The Active Hand Coating is touted as the first of its kind with the capability to neutralize C. diff so rapidly while maintaining residual activity against a wide spectrum of pathogens. Moreover, a care home study revealed its effectiveness substantially surpassed that of generic hand sanitizers, suggesting a significant advancement in hand hygiene practices.

Industry experts, including Prof. Mark Wilcox, emphasize the critical need for such innovative solutions in combating the spread of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), especially those resistant to antibiotics. Primel's technology, developed in collaboration with BioInteractions, represents a significant step forward in infection control, potentially altering the approach to managing HAIs and combating antibiotic resistance. Dr. Sajinder Luthra of Primel highlighted the global uniqueness of their product, emphasizing its potential in changing the landscape of infection prevention.
