New Research Explores AI Use Cases and Applications in Manufacturing

Manufacturers Alliance Foundation has published a report titled "Manufacturing Intelligence: Exploring the Spectrum of AI Use Cases." The study reveals the significant interest in AI within the manufacturing sector, highlighting that 93% of surveyed companies have launched new AI initiatives in the past year, with another 6% planning to do so.

The survey included insights from dozens of manufacturing leaders and more than 200 U.S.-based mid-cap to large-cap companies. The focus is on leveraging AI for productivity, quality, and throughput improvements. Among those surveyed, 55% prioritize AI initiatives for strategic business objectives and 24% aim for cost savings.

AI is being applied across various departments including supply chain management, design and engineering, production and maintenance, quality, information systems, warehousing, and customer services. Despite a learning curve, AI is seen as a tool for solving existing problems more efficiently and upskilling employees.

The report underscores the importance of clear communication within organizations regarding AI's role and impacts, with support from various industry leaders like Microsoft and Siemens.
