Aurubis Implements Steam Accumulator System in Lünen
Aurubis AG has commissioned a new steam accumulator system at its Lünen site, one of Europe's largest multimetal recycling facilities. This initiative is part of Aurubis' strategy to enhance energy efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions. The €10 million investment will cut annual natural gas use by 2 million cubic meters and decrease CO₂ emissions by 5,000 tons. With four high-pressure steam accumulators, the system stores excess steam for later use in production processes and heating, reducing the need for gas-powered boilers.
The new system is expected to contribute over €1 million annually to the company's EBITDA. This initiative aligns with Aurubis’ Group-wide targets to halve Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. Funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, this project underscores the integration of climate protection and industrial innovation. Aurubis continues to enhance competitiveness amid rising energy costs, reinforcing its commitment to the energy transition.
