Nordex Group Secures Major Wind Energy Order in South Africa
The Nordex Group announced on 26 March 2024, the acquisition of an order to supply and install 57 turbines in South Africa. This project, involving N163/5.X turbines from the Delta4000 series, spans a total capacity of 336 MW, distributed across three wind farms, each generating 112.1 MW. These wind farms are strategically located in the Eastern Cape Province, known for its favorable wind conditions.
The name of the client and the cluster remains confidential, as requested by the customer. The schedule for the project involves the commencement of turbine installation in the latter half of 2024, with the connection to the grid expected in the second half of 2025. Local manufacturing of the turbine's concrete towers is anticipated to create approximately 300 jobs, thus stimulating the local economy during the construction phase.
This initiative is pivotal for South Africa, marking a significant advancement in the country's transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. With over 1.1GW of operational capacity in South Africa, resulting in a 32% market share, the Nordex Group continues to be a formidable leader in the South African renewable energy market.
