OnZero Partners with Helen to Utilize Recovered AI Heat in Helsinki
OnZero Global Solutions GmbH has announced an agreement with Helen Ltd to supply recovered AI compute heat to Helsinki's district heating network. The collaboration aims to provide up to 525,000 MWh of heat annually, benefiting approximately 70,000 homes in Helsinki. This initiative marks a significant development in OnZero’s AI Heat Factory design, which integrates high-performance AI computing with heat recovery.
The AI Heat Factory employs a liquid-cooled architecture, capturing up to 99% of compute heat for productive use, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Helen has been utilizing waste heat since 2010 and aims to phase out combustion-based energy by 2040. This partnership aligns with their strategy to ensure a competitive heating solution in the future.
The project has environmental benefits, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 1,500 tonnes per MW annually. OnZero's design supports deployment in regions with access to district heating networks, indicating potential expansion across Europe.
