OSCP Releases Open-Source ROS 2 Driver for MK2 Units

Montreal-based OSCPS Motion Sensing Inc. has unveiled an open-source ROS 2 driver for its MK2 inertial measurement units, available under the MIT license. Supporting ROS 2 Humble and Jazzy on Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04, the driver connects MK2 units to ROS 2 systems through RS-422 or CAN-FD, streamlining data integration.

The MK2 family includes the MK2M2 MEMS unit and the advanced MK2E2 with a photonic gyroscope on the Z-axis. The new driver reduces errors in navigation stacks where GNSS is unavailable, crucial for environments like warehouses and tunnels.

OSCP demonstrated the photonic option's efficacy in a Montreal road test, highlighting its superior accuracy compared to the MEMS unit. The MK2Z prototype offers even greater precision for demanding scenarios such as subsea and mining operations.
